Garden ready for winter

I used my Dad's little spreader, works great. I have a buddy with a few cows. It was an 11 minute drive each way. Couple of hours and I had 4 loads on the garden. I did not need my forks for to much, but they still look pretty cool. His skid steer loaded the spreader in 2 scoops. I also then tilled it in. The 1025 is so fun to do projects with. Hopefully the organic material will help my clay pit of a garden.

  • Organic material from cows can really work wonders for clay soil. I remember when I first started gardening, my soil was similar—dense and challenging. Adding compost and organic matter over time made a huge difference. Have you considered mixing in some mulch or compost to further enrich the soil?

  • I did use the manure forks(tine bucket)a little. I had dropped a big pile at one point so I tipped forward and back up. Leveled it out somewhat descent. I also had to unload a little off the top, one trip got a little full. Those kinds of buckets were common around here when everyone used straw for bedding. Now most large dairys use liquid spreaders.. The tines get between the layers better than a bucket or regular forks. Sometimes there are additional benefits to working in a welding shop. :) as far as the spreader itself, my dad has owned it for years so I do not know much about it. I can get more info off it if needed.
